How to Compress Videos on Mac

Steps to Compress Videos Using Wondershare UniConverter for Mac

Step 1 Open Compressor on Mac.

Launch Wondershare UniConverter 18 on your Mac. From the Home screen, select Compressor to open the compression workspace. You can also access Compressor directly from the left navigation menu.

Step 2 Add videos or audio files.

In the Compressor interface, click Add File/Folder to import the files you want to compress. Open the drop-down menu to choose Add Video, Add Audio, or Add Folder. You can also import files from a connected device or camcorder, or drag and drop local files into the workspace.

Once imported, the files appear in the Compressing tab, where you can review their source information and adjust the compression settings before processing.

Step 3 Customize video compression settings.

Open Compression Settings to configure how UniConverter reduces your video file size. UniConverter 18 for Mac provides three compression targets: Size Ratio, Max. File Size, and Quality Level.

Compress by Size Ratio

Select Size Ratio to control the output size using a percentage slider. As you adjust the ratio, UniConverter displays an estimated file size to help you find a suitable balance between compression and visual quality.

Under Compression Mode, choose Fast Mode for quicker processing or Precise Mode when you want more accurate size control. Precise Mode may take longer to process.

When using Precise Mode, you can select a Video Type that matches your content, including Film & TV Series, Anime & Cartoons, Tutorials & Conferences, and Sports & Live Events. These options help tailor compression settings to different types of video footage.

You can also enable AI Detail Preservation when available. This option helps minimize visible detail loss during compression, particularly in important visual areas. Processing time and results may vary depending on the selected settings and source video.

Compress by Maximum File Size

If your video needs to meet a specific upload or sharing limit, select Max. File Size. Enter the desired maximum size in MB or choose from the available size presets, such as 10 MB, 25 MB, 100 MB, or 500 MB.

Compress by Quality Level

Choose Quality Level when preserving visual quality is more important than reaching a specific file size. Move the slider between Low Quality and High Quality to adjust the desired output quality. Higher quality levels generally retain more detail, while the final file size depends on the video content.

Under Output Settings, select your preferred output Format. Where available, expand Advanced settings to customize additional video and audio parameters.

To check the expected result before processing the entire file, click Preview 20s for a short preview. Once the settings meet your needs, click Apply to save them.

Note: If you are compressing multiple files, you can also use the batch compression controls at the bottom of the Compressor interface to apply a common compression target.

Step 4 Start compressing videos on Mac.

After confirming your compression settings, choose the destination folder from the Save to menu at the bottom of the Compressor interface. Click Compress All to begin processing the imported files.

You can monitor each task in the Compressing tab, where UniConverter displays the compression progress and estimated remaining time.

Step 5 Find and review compressed videos.

When the compression process is complete, switch to the Finished tab. Here, you can view your compressed files along with their output format, resolution, file size, and duration.

Click the folder icon next to a completed file to open its saved location on your Mac. You can then review the compressed video or use it for uploading, sharing, or storage.

Note: You can also reduce video file size through the Converter feature by selecting an output format and adjusting supported parameters such as resolution, bitrate, and frame rate.
