How to Batch Edit Photos in Capture One

Capture One batch editing starts with the right selection and the right source image. Enable Edit All Selected Variants, copy the adjustments you need, and apply them to the other selected photos. Group similar lighting together so a useful starting edit does not become an unwanted correction across an entire shoot. The separate UniConverter tutorial below shows how to finish delivery edits on the exported images.

  • Choose a primary variant before copying its adjustments.
  • Reuse selected settings through the Adjustments Clipboard.
  • Review individual photos, then export separate delivery copies.

Keep RAW development in Capture One. For resizing, backgrounds, or watermarks on exported photos, UniConverter Batch Image Editor provides a separate desktop delivery workflow.

Quick Answer
  • To batch edit in Capture One, select the images in the Browser, enable Edit All Selected Variants, and use Copy/Apply to transfer chosen adjustments from the primary variant.
  • The primary variant is the source of the copied look. Selecting many photos does not make every adjustment slider behave as a shared control.
  • Use the Adjustments Clipboard to exclude edits that should remain individual, especially crops or corrections tied to one composition.
  • Split a mixed shoot into smaller lighting groups, apply an appropriate reference edit, and inspect the exceptions before exporting.
  • For delivery edits after RAW development, use UniConverter Batch Image Editor on the exported image copies.

Choose the Right Stage for Your Photo Batch

RAW development, copying a look, and preparing a delivery folder are related jobs. Assign each one to the tool that preserves the control you need.

Develop the shoot
✓Adjust a reference RAW image and retain its editable development settings.
Keep the RAW originals and Capture One editing work available for later revisions.

Prepare final copies
✓Export the edited images using the required output recipe.

Copy a look to photos that share a similar starting point. Different cameras, white balance, or lighting can require a different reference image.

How to Batch Edit Photos in Capture One

Start with selection and Copy/Apply in Capture One. Complete the RAW edit there, then use the separate UniConverter tutorial below when the exported photos need delivery edits.

Select the Photos and Set the Primary Variant

In the Browser, select photos that need a similar treatment. Make the intended reference image the primary variant, identified by its thicker border, and enable Image > Edit All Selected Variants. Adjust the reference image before copying its look to the group.

  • Use Shift to select a range or Ctrl/Command to add individual photos.
  • Choose a reference with representative exposure and white balance.
  • Leave unusually dark, bright, or differently framed photos for separate review.

Copy and Apply the Adjustments You Need

Use Copy to place the reference adjustments on the Adjustments Clipboard. Select the categories to transfer, keep the intended destination variants selected, and choose Apply. Exclude composition-specific settings such as a crop when they do not belong on the other photos. Use a tool-specific copy/apply control when only one adjustment needs to be shared.

  • Copy the intended reference edit before changing the selection.
  • Keep the destination variants selected when applying the clipboard.
  • Apply a tool-specific adjustment when the rest of the edit should stay untouched.

Edit All Selected Variants controls the selection scope. Copy/Apply remains important because ordinary slider changes do not universally update every selected photo.

Review the Batch and Export the Photo Copies

Inspect several destination variants after applying the adjustments. Correct exposure, white balance, skin tones, or crops individually where the images differ. Export the approved selection with the required output recipe, and keep the RAW originals and editable Capture One work. Use the exported image copies for the separate UniConverter delivery workflow below.

  • Separate daylight, artificial-light, and mixed-light groups.
  • Compare representative photos at a consistent viewing size.
  • Correct exceptions individually before exporting the collection.

Prepare Exported Photos for Delivery

After the RAW edit is finished, use UniConverter Batch Image Editor when delivery copies need common dimensions, background work, or a watermark. Add Files or Add Folder, choose the relevant adjustment, review the images, and use Export All.

  • Keep this export-oriented pass separate from RAW development.
  • Check crop and fit on portrait and landscape images.
  • Retain an unmodified export if clients may request another size.

Capture One Batch Editing Controls and Decisions

These controls determine which photos receive an edit and which parts of the reference treatment are reused.

What Each Control Does

Control or decision Purpose What to check
Browser selection Defines the variants you intend to process. Exclude unrelated photos before applying settings.
Primary variant Identifies the reference image inside a selection. Confirm the thicker border is on the correct photo.
Edit All Selected Variants Enables shared operations for the selected variants. Enable it before applying adjustments to a group.
Copy Collects adjustments from the reference variant. Finish the reference edit before copying it.
Adjustments Clipboard Lets you choose the adjustment categories to transfer. Avoid transferring a crop merely because it is selected.
Apply Transfers the selected clipboard adjustments to the targets. Inspect a few targets immediately after applying.
Styles and presets Reuse an established treatment. Check whether the treatment fits the light and subject.
Export recipe Defines the final deliverable settings. Use the dimensions, format, and color space requested.
Delivery copies Separate shareable outputs from editable originals. Use an identifiable folder and verify the finished files.

Before the full batch: If only one photo changes, confirm the target selection and Edit All Selected Variants state, then use the clipboard Apply operation rather than assuming a slider affects every image.

When Capture One Batch Editing Helps

Batch editing is most useful when a collection shares enough visual conditions for a reference adjustment to be meaningful.

Portrait Sessions

Apply a common starting treatment to a consistent setup, then review facial exposure and skin tone individually. Small head turns or changing light can still need correction.

Product Photography

Repeat a controlled studio look across a product set while checking color and highlights against the actual item. Avoid copying crops that cut off a different product shape.

Events and Weddings

Separate indoor, outdoor, and mixed-light photographs before copying an edit. Smaller groups reduce the amount of corrective work after the shared pass.

Publishing and Client Delivery

Export reviewed copies from Capture One, then prepare specific sizes or watermarks in a separate batch workflow when a publication or client needs additional versions.

Check the Photos Before Exporting the Full Selection

A common treatment should improve consistency while preserving the details that make each image usable.

SelectionConfirm that the reference and destination photos belong to the intended group.
ColorReview skin tones, neutral surfaces, and products under changing light.
ExposureLook for clipped highlights and shadows that became too dark after copying.
CompositionKeep subject-specific crops and local adjustments individual when needed.
DeliveryOpen the exported files and check format, dimensions, and the destination folder.

Capture One Batch Editing FAQs

01

How do I batch edit photos in Capture One?

Select the images in the Browser, enable Edit All Selected Variants, and use Copy/Apply with the Adjustments Clipboard to transfer the categories you need from the primary variant. Review the destinations before exporting.
The primary variant may be the only image affected by the adjustment you are making. Confirm the selection and Edit All Selected Variants setting, then use Copy/Apply for the adjustments you want to transfer.
Choose the reference variant, use Copy, select the target variants, review the Adjustments Clipboard categories, and choose Apply. Keep unrelated images out of the selection.
No. Shared operations and copied adjustments have defined behavior. Use Copy/Apply when transferring a reference edit rather than assuming all direct slider changes update every selected variant.
Yes. Review the categories in the Adjustments Clipboard and transfer only the adjustments that fit the group. Subject-specific crops are often better reviewed individually.
Use separate groups when lighting or capture conditions differ. A daylight reference is unlikely to provide the best starting point for photographs taken under mixed indoor light.
Use Capture One for the RAW development decisions described here. UniConverter Batch Image Editor is useful for a separate pass on exported copies that need consistent dimensions, background edits, or watermarks.
Review representative images and outliers, export to the requested recipe, and open the resulting files. Confirm format, dimensions, naming, and destination before delivery.
